Bentley Leads NEIGA Division II Championships Following Day 1; Falconer at Top of Leaderboard

BREWSTER, Mass. – With both sophomore Robert Falconer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) and senior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) breaking par, the Bentley University Falcons finished the first day of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division II Championships with a 14-stroke lead over the two second-place teams, Assumption College and Franklin Pierce University.

Three weeks after capturing the Northeast-10 Championships, Bentley posted a sparkling two-over-par 290. The tournament, being played at the Captains Golf Club, will conclude with second-round action on Monday.

Falconer shot a two-under 70 and will hold a one-stroke lead on a trio of golfers, including Meyers, when play resumes. Saint Rose's Michael Pikington and Assumption's Mark Bryant are the others who posted a one-under 71 Sunday.

Bentley also received solid performances from junior Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and freshman Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) during the opening round. Simione is currently tied for sixth with a two-over 74 and Ethier's 75 put him in a tie for 11th.
