Chatfield Excels for Bentley at Mike Bello Invitational

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Bentley University junior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) had his best tournament of the season Friday, finishing fourth in the Mike Bello Invitational that was hosted by Le Moyne College at the Timber Banks Golf Club.

Chatfield posted a 36-hole score of 147, including an even-par 72 over the first 18. It was an improvement of three strokes over his previous best this season. He made six birdies and was at his best on the par fives, averaging 4.63 strokes per hole.

Sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) was Bentley's number two man, tying for 14th with back-to-back 77's. His 26 pars was third best in the tournament.

As a team, Bentley finished eighth among 14 teams, putting up a 316-317-633 during the one-day event.

The host Le Moyne Dolphins won the team title by eight strokes over Wilmington University (Del.), 602-610, and also had the medalist, John Clare. He finished at four-under with a 71-69-140 to best runner-up Garrett Brown of Goldey-Beacom by four strokes.

Bentley, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division II East Region, will host its own tournament on Tuesday, the Bentley Newport Classic at the Newport National Golf Club (R.I.).
