Bentley Golf Rebounds to Finish 3rd in Division II New Englands

BREWSTER, Mass. – With three of its five players posting 75's, the Bentley University golf team posted the day's best score and climbed to third place overall as the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division II Championships concluded Monday at the Captains Course.

Bentley, which was tied for fifth among nine teams entering the day, improved on its first round score by 23 strokes with a 302 and finished with a 627. Southern New Hampshire claimed the championship with a 308-308-616 and Saint Anselm College was second at 314-311-625.

The Falcons were led on Monday by sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS) and juniors Brett Chatfield (Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) and Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS). Each closed out the fall portion of the schedule with a three-over 75.

Simione was Bentley's top golfer for the tournament, finishing 13th in a 45-player field with an 81-75-156. Chatfield tied for 14th with an 82-75-157, and Kulikowski tied for 23rd (87-75-162).

The Falcons' other two golfers, juniors Chris Ehl (Reading/Reading HS) and Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), both tied for 20th with a 36-hole total of 159. Ehl had a 77 during the second round and Meyers posted a 79.

Chatfield also won the long drive contest during the championships.

Sharing medalist honors were a trio of players: Assumption's A.J. Cooney (78-74-152), Southern New Hampshire's Matt Paradise (78-74-152) and Saint Anselm's Stephen Hunt (76-76-152).
