Strong Day 1 Showing for Bentley at Quechee Div. II Challenge

QUECHEE, Vt. – Led by a career day from junior Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and strong showings from a couple other players, the Bentley University golf team completed day one of the Quechee Division II Challenge Monday tied for second among 13 teams.

Competing on the Quechee Club, Meyers fired a three-under 69, his best round as a collegian. He'll begin Tuesday's second round tied for third, a stroke back of Kevin Gately (Saint Thomas Aquinas) and Miguel Siercke (Wilmington).

Sophomore Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland HS) also broke par for the Falcons, finishing one-under with a 71. He stood in a tie for fifth at the tournament's midpoint.

Their efforts helped Bentley produce a 291, a score that was matched by Southern New Hampshire. Saint Thomas Aquinas topped the team leaderboard at 287, and Wilmington (Del.) would have been second at 288, but was competing on an individual basis only.

Bentley junior Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) posted a 75 for a tie for 19th and Falcon sophomore Chris Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) turned in a 76, putting him in a tie for 24th. A total of 78 golfers are competing in the two-day event.
