Bentley Finishes Day 2 in 12th Place at NCAA Regional; Oliver Tied for 8th

NASHPORT, Ohio – Led by junior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy), the Bentley University golf team finished day two of the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional in 12th place, an improvement of two places over its first-day standing.

Bentley turned in a 311 during Tuesday's play at the Longaberger Golf Club and stands fifth among East Region teams with a two-day total of 639. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday with the Falcons scheduled to tee off at noon.

Oliver, in the hunt of one of two individual qualifying spots for the NCAA Division II Championships, turned in a four-over 76 after a double bogey on his final hole of the afternoon, the  par 3 189-yard ninth. That dropped him from a tie for fourth to a five-way tie for eighth at 74-76-150. The top two individuals not on the four qualifying teams, will earn a sport in the nationals.

Bentley got strong bounce-back performances from its two freshmen, Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS), during the tournament's second round. Chatfield shot a 77 after opening with an 85 and Meyers' 78 was a 12-stroke improvement over Monday's score.

Bentley's number two man in the standings is senior co-captain Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./ Duxbury HS), who posted his second straight 80 and will begin Wednesday's play tied for 48th in the 108-golfer field.

The individual leader is Sam Clark of Wilmington University (Del.), who is even par for the tournament after being one-under Tuesday (73-71-144). He's two up on Kenneth Sames (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and has a three-stroke advantage on two others, including teammate Andreas Lunding.

Wilmington took over the team-lead Tuesday and with a 309-292-601, owns a five-stroke advantage over IUP.
