Bentley Ties for 3rd in Mike Bello Invitational

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – In its final tournament before the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional May 4-6, the Bentley University golf team tied for third in a 12-team field in the Mike Bello Invitational, which concluded Monday at the Timber Banks Golf Club.

Bentley, which began the tournament's second day in fifth, finished with a 318-319-637 to trail two of the teams ahead of the Falcons in the latest NCAA Division II East Region rankings, number one St. Thomas Aquinas (304-304-608) and number three Le Moyne College (305-315-620). The Falcons, an automatic qualifier for the NCAAs by virtue of winning the Northeast-10 Conference championship last September, was fourth in the rankings that were released Friday.

Bentley's top finisher was freshman Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS), who tied for ninth with a 74-81-155.

Another freshman, Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), had Bentley's best second-day score, a three-over 75, and tied for 13th with an 83-75-158.

Medalist honors went to Southern New Hampshire junior Jake Nutter, who turned in back-to-back 72s to win the tournament by seven strokes.
