Meyers, Stoddard Lead Bentley to 2nd Place in Northeast Challenge

CONCORD, N.H. – Led by freshman Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and junior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS), the Bentley University golf team finished second among 12 teams in the Northeast Challenge, which concluded Sunday at the Concord Country Club. It was the fourth time in five tournaments this fall that the Northeast-10 Conference champions have finished first or second.

Bentley, following a 301-302-603, finished six strokes back of team champion Le Moyne College, which rode its opening round 296 to the victory. Daeman College followed in third place, with 302-303-605.

Meyers, the NE-10 Rookie of the Year, posted his second top-five finish in three collegiate tournaments as he tied for third with a 72-75-147. He finished seven strokes back of medalist Aidan Fuller of Southern New Hampshire (73-67-140) and two shy of runner-up John Abbot of Franklin Pierce (72-73-145).

Stoddard, who led the tournament in pars with 24, finished sixth in the 60-player field with his second-round 73 putting him at 148 for the weekend.

Bentley also received solid efforts from junior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/ Lincoln Academy) and senior Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS). Oliver tied for 11th (77-76-153) and Coulter tied for 16th (77-78-155).

Meyers and Oliver both had six birdies during the two-day event, second to Fuller's seven.

Bentley's next tournament is the Saint Rose Fall Shootout Friday and Saturday.
