Bentley Finishes Day 1 of Northeast Challenge; Meyers Shoots a 72

CONCORD, N.H. – In its first tournament since winning the Northeast-10 Conference Championship last Sunday, the Bentley University golf team finished the first day of the Northeast Challenge at the Concord Country Club in second place. The second and final round will be played Sunday with action getting underway at 10 am.

After an opening round 301, the Falcons will stand five strokes back of first-place Le Moyne College when play resumes. Four teams are within five strokes of the Falcons with Daeman College third at 302, Holy Cross fourth at 304, Southern New Hampshire University fifth at 305 and Franklin Pierce University sixth at 306.

Bentley was led by NE-10 Rookie of the Year Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS), who is in a four-way tie for second place after a two-over 72. Southern New Hampshire's John Clancy is alone at the top of the leaderboard following an opening round 70.

Bentley also received solid performances from junior Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/ Lincoln Academy) and senior co-captains Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) and Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS). Stoddard is tied for tenth after a 75, and both Oliver and Coulter are in a seven-way tie for 17th at 77.

A total of 12 teams and 60 individuals are participating in the tournament.
