Oliver Leads Bentley during Day 1 of Mike Bello Invitational

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) was the top performer for the Bentley University golf team during the opening round of the Mike Bello Invitational Sunday, hosted by Le Moyne College at the Timber Banks Golf Course.

Oliver shot a two-over-par 74, matching his season-best, on the 6,780-yard course and will begin Monday's second and final round in a tie for fifth place. He's two strokes back John Clare of Le Moyne and a pair of Roberts Wesleyan golfers, Shane Dobesh and Shane Gleason, the tri-leaders at the tournament's midpoint.

Like Oliver, Bentley is tied for fifth place in the team standings after posting a 315. Roberts Wesleyan tops the score list at 301, with Le Moyne four strikes back and Franklin Pierce third at 311. A total of 14 teams are participating.

The next two Falcons on the leaderboard are juniors Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) and Quincy Coulter (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS).  Stoddard's 77 put him in a tie for 12th and Coulter recorded an 81 to tie for 27th in the field of 75.
