Kirkpatrick Celebrates 21st Birthday with Tournament Victory

SUTTON, Mass. – Bentley University junior Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) celebrated his 21st birthday in style Tuesday by capturing medalist honors in the Worcester State-hosted Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational at Blackstone National Golf Club.

Kirkpatrick, who tied his career-low round, fired a two-over 74 (36-38) to win the tournament by one stroke over Eric Hedberg of Western New England University and Kevin Wheeler of Nichols College. Despite miserable weather conditions, his memorable day included five birdies and only three bogeys.

Bentley had three of the top five finishers in the 88-player tournament. Freshmen Tommy Ayres (Bolton/Nashoba Reg. HS) Jack Zierolf (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde HS) was fourth with a season-best 76 (35-41) and Jack Zierolf (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde HS) finished in a tie for fifth with a 77 (37-40) after entering the final seven holes at even par.

With the team's top four not in action in preparation for the end of the academic year and the upcoming NCAA Super Regional, Bentley played as individuals and did not figure in the team scoring.

The field for the NCAA Super Regional is scheduled to be announced on Friday. Ten teams from the East Regional will be selected and Bentley was eighth in the most recent rankings.
