Michel Fires a 72 to Lead Bentley During Day 1 of September Shootout

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Bentley University senior and 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) fired a one-over 72 to lead the Falcons Friday during the opening day of the 36-hole September Shootout at Long Island National Golf Club. The 17-team tournament will conclude on Saturday.

Overall, Bentley struggled and will begin Saturday's action tied for 11th following a 322 total. Michel and classmate Dan McQueen (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Reg. HS), who finished with a 77, were the only Falcons to shoot better than 85.

Michel is two strokes off the lead and finished the day tied for fifth place. McQueen is in a tie for 17th place at the midpoint.

Adelphi University sits at the top of the team standings with the Panthers' 301 total good for a one-stroke lead over Nyack College. The top five also includes Concordia College (308), Post University (308) and UMass-Lowell (309).

The individual leaders at the midpoint are Jeff Schaller of Concordia and Andrew Dame of Assumption College, both with a one-under 70. Shooting even par were Keith Prokop of Dominican and Ryan Snouffer of Adelphi.
