Bentley University rising senior Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award winner for golf, based on his combined excellence on the course and in the classroom.

Bentley University golfer Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS), a rising senior, has been selected for the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large third team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He’s the first golfer in the university’s history to earn the prestigious accolade.

Juniors Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS) and Dan McQueen (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS), a duo who helped the Bentley University golf team make a return trip to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional, excel in the classroom as well as on the course. As a testament to that, both were among ten student-athletes selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Men’s At-Large Academic All-District 1 team. District 1 is comprised of the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Turning in its best round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament, the Bentley University golf team tied for 13th out of 20 teams in the 2012 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional, which concluded Wednesday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

The field for the 2012 NCAA Division II Regional Golf Tournaments was announced Friday afternoon with Bentley University the number five seed in the East Regional. The Falcons were an automatic qualifier by virtue of winning the Northeast-10 Conference championship last September.

Powered by top-ten finishes from junior Dan McQueen (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Reg. HS) and senior Nick Clarke (Plymouth, Mass./Cape Cod Academy), the Bentley University golf team closed out its regular season by finishing third in the 26th annual Joseph Palamountain Invitational at the rain-soaked Saratoga Spa State Park Sunday afternoon.

With four of its five golfers surviving a driving rainstorm and very cold winds to shoot 76 or better, Bentley University turned in a 300 to finish day of the Joseph Palamountain Invitational tied for third among 11 teams. The tournament will conclude Sunday at the Saratoga Spa State Park.
