Richmond Completes 1st Professional Season in Budapest

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University All-America Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont.), the number three leading scorer in Falcon men's basketball history, recently completed his first professional season abroad, playing in the Hungarian Basketball League.

Richmond, a six-foot-one guard who graduated in 2019, was with MAFC Budapest in the B Division. The team had a successful season and was in first place with an 18-5 record when the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

"My experience was a great one," said Richmond, who is now back in Toronto. "I was in a beautiful city rich with history and a lot to do. I enjoyed my team as well, was able to put together a great rookie season and set myself up moving forward. It was just unfortunate that the season ended the way it did, but I'm looking forward to the new opportunities coming up."

Bentley's 2019 Outstanding Male Senior-Athlete averaged 20.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals during his first season with MAFC while shooting 45 percent overall, 38 percent from three and 79 percent at the foul line.

"I was able to be very effective with less minutes than in college," said Richmond. "The style of play was very different, more rigid structure and more post play. Guys were strong and methodical but I was able to stand out as one of if not the top player in the league."

Richmond scored over 20 points a game during each of his final three seasons with the Falcons, averaging 22.6 as a sophomore, 23.6 as a junior and 23.0 as a senior. His career point total was 2,081 and he also amassed 474 rebounds and 305 assists during his four Bentley seasons.

Richmond is planning to continue his professional career in Europe next year.

"I'm just looking forward to the doors God opens up moving forward," concluded the former Falcon standout.
