Assumption Rallies to Edge Bentley in OT, 84-81; Hudson Scores 25 for Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. – Down 11 with four minutes to play, Assumption College outscored Bentley University 13-2 to force overtime and went on to earn an 84-81 win in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

Senior guard Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia) led the comeback for the Greyhounds as he scored 12 of his 19 points during the game's final nine minutes.

Bentley, which dropped to 16-10 overall and 8-9 NE10, was led by senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School), with 25 points. It was his sixth straight 20-point performance and the sixth time he's scored at least 25 this season.

Bentley, which was down six at the half and by four with 14:25 to play in regulation, turned the game around with a bench-fueled 12-0 run to go up 55-47 with 11:42 on the clock. Sophomore forward Adria Amabilino Perez (Barcelona, Spain), who finished with a career-high 16 points, scored the first five during the spurt that also included a mid-range jumper from freshman guard Isaac Martin (Peachtree Gardens, Ga./Norcross HS) and a deep three-pointer from senior guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./ The Hill School).

The lead eventually peaked at 12, 64-52 on a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) with 7:49 remaining, and was still 72-61 with four-plus minutes left.

With 59.9 seconds left, Hudson scored to make it 74-68 but missed the "and one" that would have made it a three-possession game. Two three-pointers from the right wing by Vujadinovic in the final minute, the first with 47.4 seconds on the clock and the second with ten seconds, created the deadlock and forced overtime.

Vujadinovic scored the first four of OT and Assumption was up 82-78 when Amabilino Perez drained a straightaway three with 14.7 seconds left, making it a one-point game. Junior guard Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md.) hit both ends of a one-and-one with 11.2 seconds left for a three-point Assumption lead.

Webb launched an off-balance three just before the final horn but it was off the mark.

Hudson reached 25 by making nine of 16 overall, three of six from outside the arc and four of five free throws. He also finished with nine rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Amabilino Perez's career night saw him make seven of 11 shots and grab seven rebounds. Webb was the other Falcon in doubles, with 12 points and six rebounds.

Junior forward Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md.) led Assumption (13-12, 7-12 NE10) with 20 points.

Assumption had the shooting advantage, 48-45 percent, and took better care of the ball with three fewer turnovers, 12-15. Bentley was better at capitalizing on turns, 18-8 in points off, and also outrebounded the visitors, 42-34.

Bentley will look to get back on the winning track Saturday when the Falcons host Franklin Pierce on Senior Day.
