No. 23 Bentley Goes Wire-to-Wire at Saint Rose for 11th Win of Season

ALBANY, N.Y. – Double-doubles from senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/ Williston Northampton School) and sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./ Bishop McGuinness HS), along with a career-high 21 points from sophomore guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brook School), powered Bentley University to an 85-74 wire-to-wire win over The College of Saint Rose in non-conference men's basketball Thursday afternoon at the Nolan Gymnasium.

Bentley, ranked 23rd in Division II, improved to 11-2 overall and extended its winning streak to four. Saint Rose dropped its eighth straight, falling to 3-10 on the season.

Hudson finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks after scoring 15 and grabbing seven boards in the second half. Webb's second double-double in the last three games included 17 points, ten rebounds and four assists.

Wright-Kinsey was on fire in the first half as he put 16 points up on the scoreboard with missing a shot. He sank four three-pointers, including three from the left corner, and also made two shots inside the arc, a driving lay-up to open the game's scoring and a put-back.

Five of Wright-Kinsey's points came during a game-opening 10-3 run that also included a driving lay-up from junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon, Mass./Thayer Academy) and a Webb three from the left wing.

Later in the first half, a Wright-Kinsey three-ball ignited a 9-2 spurt that extended a two-point lead to nine, 28-19. Hudson was also involved with a pair of lay-ups.

Bentley scored the final five points of the half, including a second-chance put-back and one by junior forward Pete Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS), and went into the locker room up 11 at 43-32. Superior shooting (52-39 percent) and a 24-15 rebound advantage were keys to the first-half success.

The Falcon lead hit 15 for the first time with 13:36 remaining, 58-43 following an 8-0 run that included three Hudson inside baskets. A fast-break lay-up from Mello-Klein with 3:15 to play produced the biggest differential of the afternoon, 83-66.

Hudson and Wright-Kinsey both finished 8 of 14 from the field and Wright-Kinsey accounted for four of the team's six three-pointers. He knocked down four of seven while the rest of the squad was only 2 of 13 from deep.

Bentley also received eight points apiece from Blust and Mello-Klein, with Mello-Klein also registering six rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Saint Rose was led by sophomore forward Sekou Sylla (Brooklyn, N.Y.), with 21 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Tyler Washington (Englewood, N.J.), with 16 points off the bench. Those two were a combined 16 of 26 shooting the ball while the rest of the Golden Knights made only 13 of 41.

Bentley outshot the home team 49-43 percent, took a dozen more free throws (27-15), gave up only four three-pointers in 22 attempts and used 20 offensive rebounds for a 47-30 advantage on the boards.

The Falcons will be back in action Saturday with a 3:30 pm home game against Saint Anselm.
