Bentley Takes 3-0 Record to Bridgeport for First Road Contest

WALTHAM, Mass. – After opening the season with three straight home wins and before embarking on another three-game homestand, the Bentley University men's basketball team will make its first trip of the season Wednesday for a 7 pm contest against the University of Bridgeport at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.

Fans can watch the game online at https://ubknights.com/video/UBKnights_Network or by checking out the ECC Network on your smart TV.

Bentley is coming off a 74-71 win against Molloy College, a game in which the Falcons overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and put up a 48-point second half.

Meanwhile, Bridgeport has a 1-1 record following an overtime win over Goldey-Beacom and a three-point loss to Post, with both having been played at home. The Purple Knights will be playing for the first time in ten days.

The Falcons have four players who are scoring in double figures, a list headed by senior forward and Northeast-10 Player of the Week Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Northampton Williston School). His 22.3 scoring average is tied for second in the conference and he's coming off a 28-point, 11-rebound, 5-block double-double against Molloy.

Sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) follows at 21.3, fourth best in the NE10, and has made 11 of 23 three-pointers.

Guards Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) and Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School) are also scoring in doubles, at 12.0 and 11.0, respectively. Mello-Klein, who opened the season with a triple-double against Wilmington, has 30 assists and an impressive 5-1 assist-turnover ratio. Stankiewicz has come off the bench to make 56 percent of his shot attempts.

Bentley, in the first three non-conference games, has shot .488 as a team and made 34 of 80 from deep (.425). Coach Jay Lawson's club has limited the opposition to 38 percent from the field and has allowed only nine free throw attempts per game.

Bridgeport, in its first two games, attempted an incredible 46 more shots than their opponents, due to a 33-12 advantage in offensive rebounds and 26.5 forced turnovers a game. The Purple Knights haven't shot well (.400 overall, 13 of 62 from three) and their opponents have connected at a .532 clip overall, including 18 of 41 from deep.

Coach Mike Ruane has five players who are scoring in doubles with senior guard D'Vonne Trumbo and senior wing John Middleton at the top of the list. Trumbo averages 16 points and Middleton is right behind at 15.5.

The home team has prevailed in the last four meetings between the two programs with each winning twice. Bentley last come up short in its last two trips to Bridgeport, falling by a total of five points, and posted an 81-57 win in Waltham last December on the strength of 52 percent shooting.

Bentley will be back in the Dana Center for a 2:30 pm encounter with New York Tech.
