Bentley Visits Stonehill Wednesday with Falcons Attempting to Continue Recent Road Success

WALTHAM, Mass. – After edging Pace University Saturday for its third win in its last four games away from home, the Bentley University men's basketball team will look to continue its road success Wednesday when it plays a key Northeast-10 Northeast Division game at Stonehill College.

Tip-off at Merkert Gymnasium is slated for 7:30 pm with a free webcast available at www.stonehillskyhawks.tv.

Bentley (11-8, 8-6 NE10) will head into the contest alone in third in the Northeast Division, owning a one-game lead over both Stonehill (11-9, 7-7 NE10) and Southern New Hampshire. Both teams completed crossover play on Saturday, the Falcons by holding off Pace (75-74) and Stonehill with a loss at Adelphi (97-89).

A win would not only strengthen the Falcons' hold on third in the division but will also complete a season sweep of the Skyhawks for the first time since 2012-13. Back in mid-November, Bentley earned an 89-86 win, one built on a 13-4 burst in the first 2:40 of the second half.

Bentley, which is looking to win consecutive games for the first time since early December, climbed out of a 13-point deficit to best Pace last time out, 75-74. Two free throws by junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) with 81 seconds left accounted for the game's final two seconds and  two defensive rebounds by the six-footer in the final minute helped secure the road win.

With that W, Bentley completed the crossover portion of the schedule with four wins in seven game, allowing the Falcons to pick up a game on Stonehill and three on slumping Southern New Hampshire.

Stonehill and Bentley have been the conference's most accurate from downtown this season with the Skyhawks shooting .413 from 3 and the Falcons .403. Combined, there are six players with at least 25 threes and a three-point percentage over .400. That list includes Bentley sophomore guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School), who continues to lead the conference in three-point shooting (37/68. .544).

Richmond, currently third in the NE10 in scoring at 22.4, will be wrapping up what has been an outstanding month of January. He's totaled 180 points in seven games, eclipsed the 1,000-point mark and had the game-winning points twice.

Junior forward Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) follows Richmond on Bentley's scoring list. He's coming off a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double and owns a 12.6 scoring average.

Sophomore forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Hodgton HS) has scored in doubles four straight games, averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds with a .595 field goal percentage during that span.

Stonehill, which had won four of six before coming up short at Adelphi last time out, has a pair of sophomore guards at the top of its scoring list. Will Moreton produces 17 points and 6.9 rebounds a game while Twitty follows at 15.7. The two are the team's top three-point threats with Moreton shooting .410 (57/139) and Twitty .431 (47/109).

In the earlier meeting this season, Richmond and Gilpin teamed for 52 points to lead Bentley. Richmond had 29 and Gilpin followed with 23. Six players scored in doubles for the Skyhawks with Twitty's 18 at the top of the list.

Bentley has only three regular season home games left, beginning Saturday against Assumption College (3:30 pm).
