Following OT Win at Le Moyne, Bentley Returns Home to Host Saint Rose

WALTHAM, Mass. – In three games since returning from the exam and holiday break, the Bentley University men's basketball team has made a habit of overcoming second-half deficits with two of the three comebacks resulting in victories.

The most recent came Wednesday when the Falcons used a buzzer-beating three by junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) to stun Le Moyne College in OT, 73-70, after trailing by a dozen with seven minutes left.

Bentley, 8-5 overall and 5-3 Northeast-10, will be looking to make it three wins in four games since the break on Saturday when the Falcons host The College of Saint Rose in a 3:30 pm game at the Dana Center. A free webcast will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

Saint Rose, the seventh straight Falcon opponent that is listed in the most recent D2SIDA East Region top 10, will make the trip east from Albany with records of 10-4 overall and 5-1 NE10. The Golden Knights, coming off a 96-83 win over St. Michael's, have won four of their last five.

Bentley's string of comebacks began Dec. 29 against Dominican when the Falcons came back from nine down to top the Chargers 73-69. Two days later, coach Jay Lawson's team was down 11 at the University of Bridgeport. They battled back to forge a tie before falling 72-70 when a last-second three-point attempt for the win was off the mark.

At Le Moyne, the Falcons outscored the Dolphins 19-7 down the stretch, including 8-2 over the final four minutes of regulation, to force OT. Le Moyne tied the game three times in the final two minutes of the extra session before Richmond drilled his second career game-winning three with six-tenths of a second to play.

It was quite a night for the Canadian guard, who became Bentley's 53rd 1,000-point scorer in the first half and finished with 25 points. His basket with 2:13 left closed out the second-half scoring and his turn-around jumper provided the first points of the extra session.

Richmond's eighth 20-point win of the season gave him a 20.8 average, fourth best in the NE10, and 1,022 points for his career.

Also averaging in doubles for the Falcons are two forwards from Maine, Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) and Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Northampton Williston School), at 13.5 and 11.0, respectively.

Hudson, since the break, has shot 61 percent overall while producing 17.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Against Le Moyne, he netted Bentley's first 11 points and turned in his second 20-point game of the season.

Senior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) has climbed to third on the NE10 rebound list (7.9) after collecting 46 the last four games, including 16 at Le Moyne.

Three of Saint Rose's starting unit are shooting at least 52 percent overall, including senior guard Micah-Ryan Boyd. After missing the first 11 games, he's averaged 18 points during the last three while making 20 of 37 shot attempts.

Six-eight senior Julian Lipinski (.546 FG, 27 blocks) and junior guard Shane Herrity, a 37 percent shooter from three, are the other double-figure scorers for the Golden Knights. Lipinski produces 14.1 points a game and Herrity follows at 11.9.

After facing Saint Rose, Bentley will prepare for two road games next week, Wednesday against American International and Saturday at New Haven.
