Bentley Hosts Franklin Pierce Wednesday, Seeking Win No. 5

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's basketball team will be looking to build on its 4-1 record Wednesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce University at the Dana Center. A webcast for the 7:30 pm contest will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

It will be the first game in eight days for both clubs with Bentley coming off an 82-58 road win at Assumption College and Franklin Pierce facing its first test since an 87-73 win over St. Michael's. The Ravens will make the trip to Waltham owning records of 3-2 overall and 1-2 Northeast-10.

Five Falcons are averaging in doubles with junior All-Region guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) at the top of the list at 20.8, fourth best in the conference. He led Bentley against Assumption with 25 points, the third time this season he's scored at least 23. In his team's first two NE10 games, he has shot 56 percent overall and made 12 of 13 free throws.

Junior forward Zach Glipin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) , who scored 17 on a very efficient 5-for-6 shooting last week against Assumption, has averaged 20 points in conference play with a .609 field goal percentage. Overall, he's second on the team with a 12.6 scoring norm.

Bentley's other double-figure scorers are freshman Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) and sophomores Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./The Hill School) and Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School). Mello-Klein, in addition to scoring 10.4 a game, is tied with Richmond for the team-lead in assists (21) and leads Division II nationally in assist-turnover ratio, having lost the ball only once in five games.

Stankiewicz, who averages 11.5 points, is second in Division II in three-point accuracy, having come off the bench to drill 12 of 19. That includes eight of 12 in the last two games.

Bentley, tied for eighth in this week's D2SIDA East Region rankings, has shot .509 overall thus far with a .398 accuracy mark from deep. The Falcons have outscored their opponents by 23.6 points per game and also own a 16.6 rebound margin.

In its most recent game, Franklin Pierce halted a two-game slide with an 87-73 win over St. Michael's, who the Falcons will see on Saturday. Led by senior forward Asante Sandford, the Ravens shot 54 percent overall and knocked down 12 of 23 three-pointers. Sandford made eight of ten shots overall, including all six of his three-pointers, and finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

All five starters for Franklin Pierce are scoring at least 12 points a game with the 15.8 posted by six-foot-eight senior Mike McDevitt leading the way. Right behind him, at 15.7, is senior forward Jordan Lackey.

After facing the Ravens, Bentley will make its annual trip to Vermont to take on St. Michael's on Saturday afternoon.
