Mello-Klein Named NE10 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) was named the first Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year for the 2017-18 season on Monday.

In his first two collegiate games and starts as Bentley's point guard, Mello-Klein averaged 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and 1.5 steals while playing a total of 47 minutes without a turnover. He made 10 of 15 from the field, including 2 of 4 three-pointers, in the two victories.

Against Concordia in a 112-65 win, Mello-Klein filled the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal on 6-of-8 shooting. That came after he debuted with eight points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in a 103-54 victory over Georgian Court.

Junior guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate School) and sophomore forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Northampton Williston) were also recognized with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.

Making his first two career starts, Hudson scored 39 points (19.5 ppg) and grabbed 16 rebounds (8.0 rpg) in 46 minutes (19.5 ppg) while shooting .727 overall (18-22) and 3-for-4 from three. He had a career-best 25 points and eight rebounds against Concordia after putting up 14 and 8 in the Georgian Court game.

Richmond averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting .444 overall and .333 from deep. Against Concordia, he finished with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 26 minutes of action.

Bentley will conclude a three-game season-opening homestand Wednesday against Stonehill College (7:30 pm).
