4 Score at Least 14 as Bentley Shoots Past Franklin Pierce, 94-68

RINDGE, N.H. – Anytime the total of your shooting percentages approaches 200, you've had a good night.  And that's what happened to the Bentley University Falcons when they shot 53 percent overall, the same from downtown and 89 percent from the line en route to a 94-68 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday evening at the FPU Fieldhouse.

Senior guard Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy) topped the Bentley scoring list with a career-high 18 points. Classmate Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) followed with a season-best 17, sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) dropped in 16 and freshman guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Reading HS) scored a career-high 14 without missing a shot.

Combined, those four accounted for 65 points while making 23 of 37 overall, 9 of 12 three-pointers and all ten of their free throws.

The win boosted Bentley to 3-1 overall and evened the conference record at 1-1. Franklin Pierce, which struggled making shot throughout (38 percent overall, 28 percent 3's, 43 percent free throw), fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 NE-10.

Bentley, which maintained a lead for over 38 minutes, started to open the game up during the final three-plus minutes of the first half, using a 9-2 run to take a 48-37 advantage into the break. Duke scored on an inside basket, Richmond hit a jumper in the paint, Duke converted a three-point play and Barr scored on a driving lay-up.

The second half saw Bentley use a 14-4 burst to double a 10-point lead, opening a 71-51 advantage with 10:41 to play. That salvo included a pair of Barr three-pointers, as well as Stankiewicz's fourth triple of the night.

Bentley locked up the outcome with a 15-4 run that made it a commanding 27-point advantage, 88-61, with 4:35 left. Richmond was instrumental there, scoring six of the 15.

Barr, who had 13 of his 18 in the second half, hit four of six from deep and shot 7 of 12 overall while also contributing four rebounds and a couple steals. Duke was perfect on his five throws and a 6-for-11 shooter overall . Richmond, who had five assists and four boards, made five of his nine shots overall as well as all five of his attempts from the line.

Stankiewicz scored his 14 in 14 minutes, connecting four times from three-point land and also on a 12-footer.

Sophomore forward Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) was nearly Bentley's fifth double-figure scorer, coming up a point shy, and junior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./ Trinity Catholic HS) had eight rebounds.

Senior guard Donte Gittens (Hartford, Conn.) led Franklin Pierce with 17 points, ten rebounds and four assists.

Bentley will return home to host Assumption College Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
