WALTHAM, Mass. – The veteran triumvirate of senior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS), grad student Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and senior guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) all scored 20-plus points for the second time this season, combining for 67, as Bentley University led wire-to-wire for a 93-77 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

McFarland finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Hyland followed with 21 and seven boards, and Furness provided 20.

Bentley, which shot 62.5 percent overall and a season-best 60 from three, remained unbeaten in conference play, improving to 6-2 overall and 4-0 NE-10. SNHU, the reigning NCAA Division II East Region champion, fell to 4-4 overall and 1-3 conference.

The Falcons broke the game open early, using a 20-2 explosion to grab a 24-5 lead with 10:39 still to play in the opening half.  While McFarland and Hyland were combining for 22 of their team's first 24, the Penmen came up empty on 15 of their first 17 possessions.

McFarland reached double-figures on a three-ball with 11:31 left in the opening half, Hyland did the same about two minutes later and Southern New Hampshire didn't escape single numbers on the scoreboard until a pair of free throws with 7:53 remaining until the break.

Bentley's lead hit 20 for the first time when Furness nailed a three from the right side with 8:41 left in the first, making it 29-9, and the Falcons maintained a lead of at least 13 for the game's final 32:55. The Falcon advantage peaked at 25 when McFarland drained a triple from the right wing with about nine minutes left.

McFarland, who boosted his conference-leading scoring average to 24.9, made 10 of 16 shots overall and two of his five three-pointers. Hyland was 10 of 14 from the floor with one three-pointer, and Furness buried 8 of 11 shots, including all four of his attempts from downtown.

Bentley also received 15 points and six assists from junior guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.S.)), along with seven points and a team-leading eight rebounds from sophomore forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS).

The game high scorer was Penmen senior guard Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.) with 33, including 22 after intermission on 10-of-13 shooting. SNHU also received 12 points off the bench from freshman guard Daquaise Andrews (Queens, N.Y.).

Bentley shot 62.5 percent in each half and finished nine of 15 from outside the arc. SNHU also had a good shooting day (.517), particularly in the second half when the Penmen connected at a 62 percent success rate.

The Falcons were a plus-nine on the boards, 31-22, and finished with a 17-7 edge in second-half points.

Bentley will complete a three-game homestand on Wednesday with a 7 pm encounter with Franklin Pierce University.
