ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior guard Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and junior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) combined for 53 points as Bentley University used 54 points in the point and 60.3 percent shooting for a 99-92 non-conference win over Molloy College in men's basketball Tuesday night at the Quealy Gym.

Hyland poured in 28 points, on 11 of 16 shooting, and McFarland followed with 25, propelling Bentley to its third win in its last four games. It was just the second loss of the season for the 6-2 Lions.

After the two teams traded three-balls to start the game, Bentley junior forward Shaq Phelps (Linden, N.J./Linden HS) made a lay-up and the Falcons never relinquished the lead from there.

By the time senior forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Acad.) knocked down a three seven-plus minutes into the game, the Falcons were nine of 13 from the field and on top by 16, 25-9. That triple capped a 9-0 run that also included a three from senior guard JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA), a free throw from junior guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) and a Hyland jumper.

The Bentley lead dwindled to four, 37-33, with 2:34 left in the opening half following a 17-5 Molloy run that spanned four-and-a-half minutes. The Falcons got it back to ten before a buzzer-beating three-point play from junior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) made it a seven-point game at the break, 49-42.

Bentley restored the lead to 16 three times in the second half, the last coming at 82-66 on a Phelps lay-up with just under ten minutes left.

The Lions gradually cut into the Falcon advantage, and after sophomore forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) sank a three with 1:50 to play, Bentley's lead stood at six, 95-89.

It stayed that way until Hyland hit the second of two free throws with 1:10 left. He came up with a steal on the ensuing possession and McFarland capitalized by making two from the line for a 98-89 lead with 39 seconds left. Following another Marquardt triple, Bentley sophomore guard Chris Murray (Littleton, Mass./Littleton HS) hit one of two from the line to make it a three-possession game and close out the scoring.

Hyland, in addition to 28 points, provided nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. McFarland put up his third double-double of the season, with ten boards (six offensive), two assists and two steals to go along with his 25 markers.

Phelps made seven of eight shots for 16 points and Furness, in his first game in 24 days, provided 14 points, three assists, two steals and a block off the bench.

Molloy also had four double-figure scorers, a list headed by Williams and Marquardt with 24 and 22, respectively. Marquardt made six of 13 from three-point land, matching Bentley's performance from deep as a team.

Bentley's best shooting performance of the season included 67 percent in the second half and 64 percent from inside the arc. The Falcons attempted twice as many free throws (32-16), made nine more (23-14) and finished with a plus-nine rebound margin, 36-27.

Bentley (4-5) will be back at home Sunday afternoon for a 3 pm Northeast-10 Conference encounter with Le Moyne College.
