WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior guard JP Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA) had a career-high seven steals, along with 12 points and eight rebounds, and his teammates combined for 13 three-pointers as Bentley University returned from a 10-day lay-up to run past Goldey-Beacom College, 99-65, in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which improved to 8-3 on the year, received a game-high 18 points from sophomore forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) and 17 from both senior guard Jasper Grassa (Lynn/Lynn Classical HS) and junior forward Andrew Shaw (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy).

Keys to the victory including a 26-2 differential in second-chance points as the Falcons grabbed 19 offensive boards, as well as a 24-1 domination in points off turnovers. Those numbers helped produce a 48-22 advantage in points in the paint.

The Falcons had trouble getting untracked offensive early (only two field goals in the first 5:50), but the bevy of threes began with three triples in a span of two minutes, including two by Grassa. That produced a 13-9 lead after eight minutes.

After the Lightning netted the next five to grab their final lead of the afternoon at 14-13, Bentley took charge, using a 16-3 burst to open a 29-17 lead. Five different Falcons contributed points during that stretch, with Shaw scoring five and McFarland making a pair of baskets.

A straight-away three by Grassa from well beyond the arc made it 38-23 with 3:30 left until the break and the Falcons eventually went into the half up 45-32.

A 15-1 explosion fueled by three more three-pointers broke the game wide open, making it 66-39 with 12:43 left. Connecting from long distance over that stretch were McFarland, Grassa and freshman guard Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy).

Bentley's lead eventually peaked at 38, 98-60, when senior guard DJ Guillette (Lunenburg/ Lunenburg HS) drained a triple with 2:10 left. He finished with seven points in eight minutes off the bench.

McFarland made 8 of 14 shots overall and also had two blocks and two steals. Shaw, 7-for-11 with three treys, matched Koury's eight rebounds, and Grassa's day included four three-pointers and four assists. Koury achieved his 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Falcons also received eight points from freshman guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./ The Hun School (N.J.)) and six assists from sophomore guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS).

Bentley, despite missing 2 of its first 12 field goal attempts, shot .514 overall, the ninth time in 11 games the Falcons have been over .500, and made 43 percent of its attempts from downtown. Over the final 34-plus minutes, the Falcons connected at a 58 percent clip overall with 13 threes in 23 tries.

The Falcons dominated the boards, 45-25, and committed only six turnovers. Meanwhile, they forced 14, four above Goldey-Beacom's season form, and came up with a season-high 12 steals.

Junior guards Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, N.J.) and Robert Sweet (New York, N.Y.) each scored 11 for the Lightning, which dropped to 4-6 on the year.

Bentley's next games will be Jan. 3-4 during a tournament at Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y.
