DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) scored her 12th and 13th goals of the season, moving her into a tie for the conference lead, as Bentley University defeated Mercy College, 5-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
Bentley, which outshot the Mavericks 22-3, improved to 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the NE10 with one regular season contest left. Mercy dipped to 3-11 overall and 3-10 conference in its first NE10 season.
The Falcons also received a strong performance from senior Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./ Nashoba Reg. HS), with a goal and two assists. The other goals were scored by junior Sam D'Aquila (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS) and senior Keally Ingersoll (Marriotts Ridge, Md./Ellicott City HS).
D'Aquilla, with her second of the year coming off a cross from Anderson, gave Bentley a 1-0 lead with 62 seconds left in the first quarter. Anderson and Crowley scored about four minutes apart in the second, extending the lead to 3-0 at the break.
The advantage grew to 5-0 when Ingersoll and Crowley found the back of the net during the third quarter.
Sophomore Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) earned the win in net for the Falcons with 45 scoreless minutes.
Bentley will finish the regular season schedule on Friday at New Haven and will likely need a win to earn a spot in the Northeast-10 championship tournament.
