St. Michael’s Outlasts Bentley in OT, 6-5; Crowley Takes NE10 Scoring Lead

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Jenna Puleo (Essex Junction, Vt.) completed her hat trick 3:43 into overtime, giving St. Michael's College a 6-5 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Thursday afternoon on the Bentley Turf Field.

Senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) led Bentley in the back-and-forth contest, with two goals and an assist. That propelled her to the top of the Northeast-10 scoring list with nine goals.

Crowley's final goal, assisted by senior Christa Knell (Watertown/Watertown HS), created a 5-5 tie with 7:49 left in regulation.

Down 2-1, Bentley scored twice in the second period and went into the halftime break riding a 3-2 advantage. Senior Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) was involved in both , assisting on a Crowley goal and scoring herself off a penalty corner.

The third quarter belonged to St. Michael's (1-8, 1-5 NE10) with Purple Knights scoring three times to take a 5-4 advantage into the fourth.

In the overtime, after Bentley was denied at the opposite end, Puleo dribbled into the circle before beating the Falcon netminder for the game-winner.

Bentley's other goal scorers were seniors Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) and Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

Bentley (3-6, 2-5 NE10) had nearly twice as many shots, 28-15, and also a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners.

The Falcons will look to bounce back Saturday with a 4 pm game at Pace University.
