3-Goal Third Lifts Assumption Past Bentley, 4-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three goals in a span of 6:14 in the third quarter, including two 79 seconds apart that reversed a one-goal Falcon lead, lifted Assumption College to a 4-2 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday afternoon at Rocheleau Field.

Assumption, ranked eighth nationally in Division II, improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Bentley slipped to 3-5 on the season, including 2-4 NE10.

Sophomore Summer Walsh (South Yarmouth) scored the equalizer for the Greyhounds just 32 seconds into the second half. Less than a minute and a half later, junior Deidre Burchill (Braintree) put the home team in front with her second goal of the day, a lead Assumption would not relinquish.

Assumption added an insurance goal with 9:14 remaining in the third with senior Courtney Sickel (Atkinson, N.H.) netting the goal.

Bentley's goals were scored by senior Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS) with 4:47 left in the first period and classmate Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) with 8:42 remaining in the second. It marked the fourth straight game that Crowley has scored for the Falcons.

Assumption outshot the visiting Falcons by a wide margin, 33-5, and was awarded 14 of the game's 16 penalty corners.

Bentley will be back at home Thursday for a 4 pm contest against St. Michael's College.
