Anderson Lifts Bentley Past Assumption with 2nd-Half Goal

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) broke a 1-1 tie with a second-half goal to power Bentley University to a 2-1 win over visiting Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action Friday afternoon.

Anderson's game-winner, which came on a reverse scoop into the upper half of the cage with 25 minutes to play, was her 16th goal of the season, tying her for second in the NE10. She's the first Falcon to have that many since NE10 Hall of Famer had 17 in 2006.

The other two goals were scored in the first half. Senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, off an assist from Anderson, and Assumption junior Courtney Sickel (Atkinson, N.H.) answered for the Greyhounds in the 29th minute.

Freshman Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) made her second career start and responded with her second win in four days. She was credited with five saves while senior Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick) recorded four for Assumption.

Assumption had the shot advantage, 11-8, and attempted six penalty corners, twice as many as the Falcons.

With the win, Bentley took sole possession of eighth place in the conference with two regular season matches remaining. The Falcons improved to 10-6 overall and 6-5 NE10 while Assumption dipped to 8-6 (4-5 conference).

Bentley will close out its home schedule Wednesday evening against Saint Anselm College.
