Three Score as Bentley Wins 4th Straight for Best Start Since 2006

WALTHAM, Mass. – First-half goals from juniors Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) and Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS), along with a second-half score from senior Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclair HS), lifted Bentley University to a 3-2 non-conference win over Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday night in college field hockey at Bentley.

The win was the Falcons' fourth straight and gave Bentley a 5-1 record, its best start since the 2006 team began 7-1.  Southern New Hampshire lost its third straight to slip to 1-3.

Anderson opened the scoring with 24 minutes left in the first half with her Northeast-10-leading eighth goal assisted by senior Janelle Magoon (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry HS). A little more than two minutes later, Ingersoll knocked in a rebound for a 2-0 Bentley lead.

It remained that way until Southern New Hampshire junior Cassidy Huckins (Loudon, N.H.) scored the first of her two goals two minutes into the second half.

Bentley added to its lead with 22:59 remaining with Ullrich scoring her second of the year off a penalty corner. Senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) put the ball in play, junior Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) drove the ball toward the cage and Ullrich deflected it into the net.

Huckins made it a one-goal game with 85 seconds left but the Falcons were able to hold on for the victory.

Senior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) earned the win in goal for the Falcons after making three saves.

Shots favored the home team, 15-12, and the Falcons also had a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Bentley will play Pace on Saturday in the third of a five-game home stand. Starting time is 12 noon.
