Fast Start Propels No. 5 West Chester to 8-3 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Kelsey Munster (Lancaster, Pa.) led a fast start by West Chester University with two goals in the first eight minutes and the nation's fifth-ranked Division II team went on to record an 8-3 non-conference win over Bentley University in college field hockey action Labor Day morning.

Bentley, which was playing its home opener after debuting with a 4-1 win at Adelphi University Saturday, was outshot 30-10, including 15-1 in a first half that ended with the Golden Rams in front 4-0.

Six different players scored for West Chester with Munster the only player to find the back of the cage more than once. Following Munster's first two, senior Lily Feldman (Marlton, N.J.) and junior Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J.) also scored before intermission to give the visitors a commanding lead.

After the Golden Rams scored for the fifth time early in the second, the Bentley offense came alive with three goals in a span of 13:09. Junior midfielder Sarah Rockwood (Walpole/Walpole HS), senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) and senior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) tallied the Falcon goals with Van Epps netting her third of the young season.

Senior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) recorded eight saves  in her 53 minutes of action for Bentley while Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa.) had three for West Chester.

Bentley will be on Long Island for a pair of games next weekend, No. 3 LIU Post on Saturday (4 pm) and Molloy on Sunday (1 pm).
