NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University sophomore midfielder Christa Knell (Watertown/ Watertown HS) scored her first two career goals and her teammates used a 2-1 advantage during a shootout for a 3-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday evening.

Following two scoreless overtimes, the game went to a shootout. Junior Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS), Bentley's second shooter, and senior Eva Michaliszyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS), the Falcons' third, were both successful to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Southern stayed alive when junior Emily Stross (Avon, Conn.) made her attempt, but she was the only Owl to find the cage in the round of five.

With her team facing a 1-0 deficit, Knell tied it up 5:19 into the second half, converting off a corner with Niedhart credited with the assist. Just under three minutes later, Knell put Bentley in front off a give-and-go.

It remained a 2-1 Bentley led until the game clock was down to seven minutes. Junior Jana Migliaro (Monroe, Conn.) tipped it in for the Owls (2-7, 0-3 NE10) with Young sending it in from the top of the circle.

Junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) handled duties in goal for Bentley and made two saves, both coming in the second OT. For Southern, sophomore Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) stopped 16 shots.

Bentley (1-7, 1-3 NE10) finished with a 29-4 advantage in shots, including 21-2 in regulation, and attempted nine of the game's 14 corners.

Next up for the Falcons is a Saturday home game against American International.
