Schroder’s First Career Goal Gives Bentley 3-2 Win in 2 OT

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior midfielder Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) scored her first career goal a little more than four minutes into the second overtime to give Bentley University its third straight win, 3-2 over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon.

Schroder's unassisted game-winner deflected in off the goalie and gave the Falcons their first and only lead of the contest.  It also boosted Bentley to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Pace, which has gone to OT four times in six games this season, led 1-0 at the half on the strength of a goal from sophomore Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, N.Y.).

There were three goals netted in the first 6:17 of the second half with Bentley twice tying the game up. Falcon freshman Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) made it 1-1 75 seconds into the half after tipping in a pass from junior Taylor Kane (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS).

Two minutes later, Pace sophomore Carly Corbett (Brewster, N.Y.) gave the lead back to her team, scoring from ten yards out. It stayed the way for less than three minutes, until Bentley senior midfielder Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) tallied her team-leading fourth of the season, knocking in a rebound from close range.

Sophomore Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) earned the win in goal for the Falcons after making two saves while playing the second half and the overtime.  For Pace, junior Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, Conn.) recorded nine tops.

Bentley outshot the 3-3 Setters 21-18 and finished with a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners.

Next up for the Falcons is a Tuesday night encounter at American International College, which like Bentley, is off to a 3-0 record in conference play.
