Three Score as Bentley Blanks Southern New Hampshire, 3-0, in NE-10 Opener

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) posted an eight-save shutout and freshman Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS) had both a goal and an assist as Bentley University opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University in college field hockey action at Larkin Field Saturday afternoon.

Bentley improved to 3-4 overall while the Penmen fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Falcons struck first just past the midpoint of the first half when junior Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) knocked in a rebound following a scramble in front of the net. Five minutes later, off an Ingersoll assist, freshman Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional HS) made it a 2-0 game with her first collegiate goal.

Ingersoll's second of the year, with 25:14 to play, accounted for the only scoring of the second half. The assist on the play came from junior Taylor Kane (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS).

Schaedel continued her strong play of late with the shutout the fifth of her career and first this season. She lowered her goals against average to 0.75 and has now given up only one goal in her last five games, covering 210 minutes.

Sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) made four saves for SNHU, which had a 10-6 edge in penalty corners and the same number of shots as the visiting Falcons (11).

Following five in a row on the road, Bentley will be home on Wednesday for a 5 pm contest against Southern Connecticut State.
