LIU Post Blanks Bentley, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – First-half goals by sophomore Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) and junior Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) powered LIU Post to a 3-0 win over host Bentley University in non-conference field hockey action Saturday evening.

It was the season-opener for the winning Pioneers and the second straight shutout loss for the 0-2 Falcons.

Miller netted what proved to be the game-winner when she scored off a rebound in the game's 16th minute. Twelve minutes later, Zelkovsky sent the ball into the back of the cage from about eight yards out.

LIU Post picked up an insurance goal with 8:43 to play on a penalty shot from senior Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.).

LIU Post senior Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves, all in the second half, to earn the shutout while four of Bentley's five saves were made after intermission by sophomore Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS).

Bentley, held without a shot or a penalty corner in the first half, was outshot 10-6 overall. Penalty corners were closer, a 5-4 Pioneer advantage.

Bentley is on the road for its next five, beginning Wednesday afternoon at Northeast-10 preseason favorite Merrimack.
