Watch the Winning Goal

WALTHAM, Mass.  – In her final career home game, senior forward Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) scored with 1:50 left in the first overtime to give Bentley University a berth in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championships and a 1-0 win over defending national finalist LIU Post in the rain Wednesday night.

Bentley, 8-1 at home this fall, improved to 9-7 overall and 7-4 NE-10 with its second straight 1-0 shutout victory. LIU Post, which was eliminated from a chance to make the conference championships with the loss, dipped to 10-7 overall and 6-5 NE-10.

Bentley freshman Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.) gained control of the ball near midfield and sent it ahead to a breaking Talerman. She picked it up at about the 25 with only goalie Ericka Parks (Nesconet, N.Y.) between her and the goal, took it inside the circle and fired it past the charging Pioneer keeper for her sixth career game-winner.

The shot was just the third of the night and the first since the opening half for the Falcons. LIU Post finished with a 9-3 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the second half.

It was the second straight shutout for junior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), who finished with the game's only two saves.

Bentley will finish the regular season at Assumption College Saturday afternoon before playing a first-round NE-10 championship game on Tuesday.
