Late Goal by Crowley Gives Bentley 1-0 Win over Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.) scored the game's only goal with 1:47 left to play to give Bentley University a 1-0 win over visiting Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon.

Six teams qualify for the NE-10 championships and the win kept the Falcons in a tie for sixth with LIU Post with two to play. Those two teams will meet on Wednesday evening at Bentley in the final home game of the regular season, with a tournament berth awaiting the winner.

Crowley picked up a loose ball and went one-on-one with the Raven goalie before sending the ball into the right corner of the cage. The goal was the fourth for the Falcon rookie, tying her for the team lead.

The shutout belonged to junior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), who made six saves, all but one in the second half, and was aided by a defensive save from senior Molly Rowe (Newburyport/Newburyport HS).

Bentley finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots, including a commanding 11-2 in the first half when the Falcons dominated play but were unable to put the ball past Raven sophomore Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.). Six of her nine saves came before intermission.

Bentley, which avenged an early-season 3-0 loss to Franklin Pierce, improved to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Franklin Pierce, which was eliminated from a chance to qualify for the NE-10 championships, dropped to 9-7 and 4-6.
