Moore Scores Twice as Bentley Improves to 4-1 in Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior midfielder and captain Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS) had two goals as Bentley University ran its record to 4-1 in conference play with a 3-2 win over visiting St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, which won consecutive games for the first time this season, improved to 6-4 overall and 5-1 at home. The Purple Knights, on the other hand, fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Moore staked the Falcons to an early lead when she knocked in a loose ball near the goal line just 1:58 into the contest.

With 8:48 left until intermission, freshman Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.) made it a 2-0 game. She beat the goalie who had come out to challenge, regained control of the ball and shot it from the left side to the opposite corner.

Both teams scored in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Junior Abby Dusha (Greenwich, N.Y.) got St. Michael's on the scoreboard at 39:49 and Moore answered about ten minutes later, restoring the two-goal advantage. After a centering pass from classmate Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS), Moore redirected the ball into the cage for her third goal of the season.

Dusha converted off a penalty corner with 11:38 left, her fifth goal of the fall bringing the Purple Knights back to within one, 3-2. She had one more scoring opportunity, with 6:29 left, but the shot was turned away from Bentley junior goalie Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS).

Shots were even at nine apiece and St. Michael's finished with a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners. Schaedel was credited with three saves while junior Abigail Bowie (Readfield, Maine) had one for the Purple Knights.

Bentley's next game is Wednesday night at Saint Anselm (7 pm).
