No. 6 Limestone Gets Past Bentley in OT, 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Brittany Carney (Newfield, N.J.) scored the game's only goal with 39 seconds left in the first sudden-death overtime to give Limestone College, the sixth-ranked team in Division II, a 1-0 victory over Bentley University in non-conference college field hockey Sunday afternoon at Bentley.

Carney's game-winner came after classmate Rebekah Baker (Rock Hill, Md.) put the ball into play on a penalty corner. She handled it and drove it into the cage from just inside the circle with the goal her third of the season.

Limestone (5-2) controlled play during the second half and overtime, outshooting the Falcons 18-5 over that 50-minute span and attempting 14 of the game's 18 penalty corners after intermission. That was in sharp contrast to the first half when shots were even (4-4) and Bentley had a 4-1 edge in corners.

Despite her taking the loss, Bentley received a strong effort in goal from senior Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS). She was credited with 11 saves, one shy of her career-best. Helping to keep the game scoreless with defensive saves were freshman Jackie Martin (Canton/Canton HS) in the second half and senior Molly Rowe (Newburyport/Newburyport HS) a minute-and-a-half before Carney's heroics.

Sophomore Tabia Cochran (Stafford, Va.) earned the win for the Saints with her only save of the game coming in overtime.

Bentley, 4-4, will continue its three-game homestand Tuesday night against American International (7 pm).
