No. 3 LIU Post Gets Past Bentley in OT, 3-2

BROOKFIELD, N.Y. -- Sophomore Grace Ilias (Oakville, Ont.) scored twice, including the game-winner 2:14 into overtime, to lift LIU Post, the third-ranked team in Division II, to a 3-2 win over Bentley University in non-conference field hockey action at Bethpage Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, which dipped to 2-2 after being outshot 18-3, scored on its first two shots of the game. Senior midfielder Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) staked the Falcons to a 1-0 lead 3:26 into the game when she put the ball inside the left post from nine yards out.

The Falcons' second shot of the game didn't come until 60 minutes later. Taking a pass from Howard, freshman Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) went one-on-one from the top of the circle to score her first collegiate goal and tie the contest at 2-2 with 6:30 left in regulation.

In between, LIU Post, which was playing its first game since the 2014 national championship game, kept pressure on the Falcon defense, scoring twice in less than six minutes around halftime to take a 2-1 lead.

Ilias scored out of a scramble in front of the cage with 48 seconds left in the first and reigning Northeast-10 Player of the Year Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) put LIU Post in front 4:38 into the second.

Ilias' game-winner came off a rebound following a blocked shot.

All nine saves in the game were recorded by Bentley senior Katie Kelley (Walpole, Mass./ Walpole HS).

Bentley will open its Northeast-10 Conference schedule Friday night with a 7 pm home encounter with Southern New Hampshire.
