Three Goals in 12 Minutes Lifts Franklin Pierce Past Bentley, 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. – Sophomore Carly Canavan (Kingston, Mass.) scored twice in a span of 2:30, lifting Franklin Pierce University to a 3-0 win over Bentley University in non-conference field hockey action Sunday at Sodexo Field.

Following 24 scoreless minutes to start the game, Canavan redirected a shot from senior Natalia Bachelder (South Berwick, Maine) into the cage with 11:20 left in the first half for what proved to be the game-winner. Two-and-a-half minutes later, she struck again following a feed from freshman Raegan Moulton (Baldwinsville, Mass.).

The scoring was completed 81 seconds into the second half with Moulton picking up her second assist of the afternoon, this time with senior Chelsey Burnell (Porter, Maine) finishing.

Although unable to capitalize, Bentley kept pressure on the Ravens with Raven sophomore Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) making ten saves. For Bentley, senior Katie Kelley (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) had two first-half stops, junior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) had one in the second half and All-Conference junior Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) was credited with a defensive save.

Shots saw Bentley with two more, 15-13, and Franklin Pierce (2-0) had one more penalty corner, 8-7.

Bentley, 1-1, will look to bounce back Wednesday night with a 7 pm home game against Merrimack College.
