Ellis Helps Bentley Win 3rd Straight, 3-2 over Assumption in NE-10 Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) assisted on two of her team's three goals and also made her Division II-leading 11th defensive save as Bentley University opened its conference schedule with a 3-2 win over visiting Assumption College in Northeast-10 field hockey action Friday night.

The win was the third straight for the Falcons, who improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10. Assumption, which had won its previous four, left the field at 4-3 overall and 0-1 conference.

Juniors Sally James (Mequon, Wisc./Univ. School of Milwaukee) and Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) each scored their second goal of the season during a first half that ended with the Falcons up 2-1. James staked Bentley to a lead in the seventh minute, off a feed from Ellis, and Talerman broke a 1-1 tie with 3:23 left until intermission on a blast from just inside the circle.

It remained that way until senior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) netted her team-leading sixth for Bentley with 8:18 left, following a centering pass by Ellis. Assumption answered almost immediately, junior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I.) scoring her third of 2014 less than a half-minute later to bring the Hounds back within one, but the Falcons were able to close the door from there.

Junior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) made four saves for Bentley while notching her third win in four decisions. Senior Lauren Neiden (Mendon) turned away six shots for Assumption.

Bentley is back at home Sunday afternoon with a noon encounter against Mercy College.
