Six Different Players Score as Bentley Blanks Southern NH, 8-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Six different players put the ball in the cage, with both freshman Eva Michaliszyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS) and junior Leah Winer (Longmeadow/Longmeadow HS) each tallying twice, as Bentley University registered an 8-0 non-conference shutout of Southern New Hampshire University in college field hockey at Bentley Friday night.

Five of Bentley's goals came in the opening half, beginning with senior Gina Lirange (Auburn/ Auburn HS) scoring her fourth of the year in the tenth minute. The two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 honoree and team scoring leader also had a hand in the Falcons' next goal as her shot was redirected by Winer midway through the opening half.

Michaliszyn, who also had an assist for a five-point night, scored her first career goal with 12:12 left in the opening half on a second chance shot following a save by junior Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.). Her second made it a 4-0 game with 3:28 left until intermission and junior Sally James (Mequon, Wisc./ Univ. School of Milwaukee) completed the first-half scoring with 1:16 left on the clock.

Junior co-captain Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS) had a hand in two of the team's three second-half goals, scoring her third of the year with 29:27 to play and assisting on a goal by sophomore Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) with 11:43 remaining. Winer's second of the night, coming with 6:49 left, completed the scoring with Ellis assisting to match Moore's three-point second half.

The shutout went to sophomore Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), who saw her teammates outshoot the visiting Penmen 33-5. Schaedel finished with three saves and was helped out by a defensive save from freshman Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS). Nickerson made 13 saves for SNHU (1-4).

Penalty corners also weighed heavily in the Falcons' advantage, 18-1.

Bentley, 2-3, will continue its four-game home stand on Tuesday with St. Michael's College in town for a 6 pm game.
