Giordano Scores Twice as No. 5 Stonehill Blanks Bentley, 4-0

WALTHAM, Mass.  – Junior Lauren Giordano (Watertown) scored twice, including the game-winner just 2:57 into the contest, as Stonehill College remained undefeated with a 4-0 non-conference victory over Bentley University in college field hockey at Bentley Wednesday night.

Stonehill, ranked fifth in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II rankings, ran its record to 4-0 while Bentley dropped to 1-2.

Each of Giordano's goals were unassisted and followed two previous Skyhawk shots that were saved or blocked. Her second goal made it a 2-0 game 12 minutes into the second half. The visitors added insurance by scoring twice in the final eight minutes, freshman Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton) with 7:19 to play and junior Erika Kelly (Watertown) with 2:16 left.

Junior Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) kept the Falcons within reach with four defensive saves in the first 14 minutes, the second time this year she's had that many.

Stonehill's four goals, on 17 shots, matched the number of shots that Bentley had in the game. The Skyhawks also had an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.

Senior goalie Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md.) made four saves for Stonehill while recording her second shutout of 2014. Sophomore Evelyn Shaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), who entered the game in the 14th minute following an injury, had three saves for the Falcons.

Bentley will be off until next Tuesday when it plays a 7 pm contest at Merrimack College.
