Lirange Scores Twice as #8 Bentley Wins First, 4-0 over Oberlin

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) scored her first two goals of the season as Bentley University recorded its first win of the season, 4-0 over Oberlin College in non-conference field hockey action Saturday night at Bentley.

Bentley, ranked eighth preseason in Division II, evened its record at 1-1 while the Yeowomen, in the midst of a two-game trip to the Boston area, dipped to 0-2.

Sophomore midfielder Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS) staked the Falcons to an early lead, scoring her second of the year 6:40 into the contest on a drive from just inside the circle.

Lirange made it a 2-0 game about five minutes later, knocking in a pass from senior Brandy Asplundh (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Acad.  of the New Church HS). Three-and-a-half minutes into the second, Lirange did it again, with the centering pass coming from sophomore Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS).

Talerman completed the game's scoring with a little less than 20 minutes on the clock, with sophomore Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) providing the assist.

Sophomore Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) earned her first career shutout, making a total of three saves while seeing her teammates outshoot the visitors 17-7. Junior Carmen Azevedo (Durham, Calif.) made five saves, all in the second half, for Oberlin.

In addition to having ten more shots, Bentley had a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Bentley is back in action Wednesday with a 4 pm game at Franklin Pierce University.
