Doran Closes Out Season with NE10 Defensive Player of the Week Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – After helping the Bentley University Falcons to their second straight shutout with a career-best performance, Bentley University junior linebacker Marc Doran (Ramsey, N.J./Saint Joseph Reg. HS) has been recognized as the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

In a game the Falcons needed to win to have a chance at the Northeast-10 championship, Doran had a career-high 15 tackles, including seven solo, and 1.5 sacks as Bentley blanked American International, 38-0, for its fifth straight win. The victory, coupled with New Haven's win over Stonehill, gave the Falcons the 2019 NE10 title.

One of his sacks came in the red zone in the second quarter, ending the Yellow Jacket possession and keeping it a 17-0 game.

Doran finished the season as Bentley's leading tackler with 80, including 7.5 for losses and 4.5 sacks. That ranked fourth in the conference.

Also recognized by the NE10, with selection to the weekly honor roll, were seniors Grant Buchanan (Holliston/Holliston HS) and Drew Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield Academy), along with junior Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS).

Mahoney caught nine passes for 195 yards and one TD (4 yards). He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the season and had two receptions of 60 yards or more. He finished his career with 219 receptions for 2,280 yards and 14 TDs.

Buchanan kicked five extra points, finishing the season a perfect 37-of-37, and put a 29-yard field goal through the uprights. He broke the program record for points by a kicker (217) and finished his career tied for fourth on the Falcons' all-time scoring list with 224. Buchanan also averaged 51.1 yards on seven kickoffs with AIC's average start at the 23.

Sturm quarterbacked Bentley to the win by running for two touchdowns and passing for 247 yards and one score. He completed 13 of 19 and gained 44 yards on the ground. Sturm finished the season as the conference-leader in completion percentage (.622) and passing yards per game (222.1).

Bentley finished at 6-4 overall, including 6-2 in conference action.
