Thorbahn Named Bentley Football Captain

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior defensive back Pete Thorbahn (Norwell/Xaverian Bros. HS), a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree, has been named captain of the 2019 Bentley University football team, head coach Bill Kavanaugh announced.

Thorbahn will be the first single captain in the program's 32-year varsity history.

"Peter may be a single captain, but he will not be alone in leading our team," said Kavanaugh, a Bentley captain during the 2003 season. "On our team, every player, 1 to 100, has the opportunity to lead. The second, third & fourth-year players in this program understand what is expected of them and all have a role in leading our team.

"Our strong & well balanced group of leaders throughout the program believe that Peter has proven time and again to be a player to rely on, on and off the field," continued the Falcon mentor.

Thorbahn earned first-team All-Northeast-10 honors in 2018 after being voted to the All-Conference second team during his first two years with Bentley.

Thorbahn, a 2018 New England Football Writers Division II-III All-Star, led last year's squad in tackles (76) and interceptions (6). He had double-digit tackles three times and was tied for seventh in Division II in interceptions per game.

The six-foot, 198-pounder will open the season with career totals that include 189 tackles and 13 interceptions. The latter number is tied for seventh most in program history, and is also tied for fourth most among active Division II players.

"Peter's performance speaks for itself, what makes him special is everything he does that does not show up in statistics," praised Kavanaugh.

Bentley opens the 2019 season Sept. 7 at West Chester University.
