Thorbahn & Freshmen Lead Bentley Past AIC, 28-10; 21-Point 4th Quarter for Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore corner Peter Thorbahn (Norwell/Xaverian Bros. HS) had two of his team's three fourth-quarter interceptions, including his second career pick-six, and Falcon freshmen combined for three touchdowns as Bentley University topped American International College, 28-10, in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

Freshman running back Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J/Bishop Ahr HS) rushed for two touchdowns, his fourth and fifth of the season, and freshman QB Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./ Perkiomen Valley HS) threw his first career TD pass, teaming up with classmate Austin Ryan (Foxborough/Foxborough HS) on a 21-yarder. For Ryan, it was his team-leading sixth of the year.

Bentley, which trailed 10-7 after three, improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the victory. AIC dropped to 2-4 overall and 2-3 NE10 after being outgained 309-196.

Bentley's comeback began when Thorbahn intercepted his first pass of the afternoon, this one coming near midfield with 12:34 left in the fourth. After a 30-yard pass from Sturm, who was filling in for injured starter Mack Lowrie (Foxborough/Roxbury Latin School), to junior Drew Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield Academy) to the Yellow Jacket six, Brazicki ran to the right pylon for the go-ahead score. On the eight-play drive, Brazicki gained 31 yards on four carries.

On a 3rd-and-18 on AIC's next possession, Thorbahn again picked off a pass. This one, he returned 34 yards for the Falcons' second TD in 57 seconds and a 21-10 lead.

Later in the fourth, after AIC turned the ball over on downs at its own 26, Sturm put the game out of reach with his TD pass to Ryan. That made it an 18-point differential with 4:25 showing on the game clock.

Bentley took a 7-0 lead about six minutes into the game, Brazicki finishing a four-play, 34-yard drive with a one-yard run up the middle. The Falcons took possession in excellent field position after a bad snap on an attempted punt and sophomore Austin Triglia (Ramsey, N.J./Saint Joseph Reg. HS) set up Brazicki with a 19-yard run to the one.

Down 7-3 at the half, AIC opened the third quarter with a lengthy 18-play, 76-yard drive that produced the Jackets' only TD of the afternoon. The march, which included two third-down and two fourth-down conversions, was finished by red-shirt freshman Samad Davilla (New Brunswick, N.J.) with a three-yard scoring run.

Brazicki and Ryan combined for 194 of Bentley's 309 yards of offense. Brazicki gained 73 on 20 carries and also caught a couple passes. Ryan had his third 100-yard receiving game, finishing with six for 108. Sturm, who came into the game late in the second quarter, completed six of eight for 82 yards.

Mahoney also had a solid afternoon with 81 receiving yards (seven catches) and 17 on the ground.

Defensively, junior linebacker Andrew Carmichael (Wayland/Wayland HS) led the Falcons with 11 tackles, including two for losses. Senior defensive lineman Phil Rigoglioso (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) had the team's third INT of the final stanza.

Bentley limited the Yellow Jackets to only 37 rushing yards, an average of just 1.1 yards per play.

For AIC, freshman QB Jordan Hiscoe (Milford, N.H.) completed 16 of 30 passes for 149 yards.

Next Saturday, Bentley will travel to Stonehill College for a 6 pm game.
