Bentley Ties School Record for Total Offense in 56-13 Win at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Outstanding first halves by junior tailback Jet Kollie (Lowell, Mass./ Lowell HS), senior quarterback Danny Guadanoli (Framingham, Mass./Framingham HS) and junior wide receiver Jeff Hill (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield HS) propelled Bentley University to a 28-7 lead and the Falcons went on to a 56-13 win over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon at Pace Field.

Bentley, which put 14 points on the scoreboard in all four quarters, totaled 626 yards of total offense, tying the school record set nine years ago against Saint Anselm College. The 56 points was also the Falcons' most since the 2004 season.

In a game in which he broke an 18-year-old school record for average gain per rush (15.1), Kolllie amassed 261 all-purpose running yards on only 14 touches and reached the end zone twice. Guadagnoli threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns as he completed 15 of 24 passes, and Hill caught four balls for 108 yards and two TDs, all before intermission. All three played only the first three quarters.

Bentley didn't have a single first-quarter touchdown in its first five games, but it took only one play to correct that against the Setters. After an interception from junior corner Brad Keirstead (Waltham, Mass./Waltham HS), Guadagnoli went deep to Hill for a 60-yard scoring strike and a 7-0 lead.

After the Setters came back to tie the game, freshman running back Martin Bannerman (Pawtucket, R.I./La Salle Academy) went up the middle on a five-yard run for his first collegiate touchdown and a lead the Falcons would never relinquish. Coming with 3:15 left in the opening period, it finished a six-play, 71-yard drive that featured a 35-yard run by Kollie and a 26-yard reception by sophomore Matt Montalto (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth HS), who was seeing his first action of the year as a slot receiver.

Bentley's second-quarter touchdowns were a 26-yard run by Kollie, during which he eluded a number of tackles, and a 20-yard pass from Guadagnoli to Hill.

Guadagnoli added two more TD passes to his resume in the third quarter, pushing his career total to 28. He threw a 13-yarder to Montalto and teamed up for a 50-yarder on a screen play to Kollie.

In the fourth, Montalto threw his first career TD pass, a 30-yarder to junior Chris Calvanese (Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS), and freshman tailback Chris Marrie (Warren, N.J./Immaculata HS) rushed for his first TD as a collegian. Following all eight touchdowns, sophomore Michael Baron (Medfield, Mass./ Roxbury Latin HS) tacked on the extra point, pushing his record for the season to a perfect 19-of-19.

Kollie's career day saw him rush for 181 yards, the most by a Falcon in eight years, on only 12 rushing attempts.  His average of 15.1 yards per carry shattered the school record of 12.1, owned by Ed Mazzuchelli since 1995. Kollie also had the one reception for 50 yards and a kickoff return of 35 yards.

Montalto had his best day as a collegian as well. He caught four passes for 95 yards and a nine-yard run, in addition to throwing for a score on his only pass of the day. Marrie ran for 43 yards on 11 carries, and Bannerman had six for 39.

As a team, Bentley had 293 rushing yards, its best since 2002, and 333 yards passing. The Falcons averaged 10.8 per play and finished with 21 first downs.

Defensively, Bentley gave up 344, most of which came through the air as freshman Antwan Washington (Loxahatchee, Fla.) completed 25 of 48 passes for 275 yards. On the ground, the Setters (0-6, 0-5 NE-10) managed only 59 net yards on 33 carries.

In addition to Kierstead, Bentley had interceptions from junior Nick McCarthy (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop HS) and freshmen Sam McDonald (Norfolk, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS) and Lamar Hardy (Centreville, Va./Westfield HS). Freshman linebacker Bryan Hardy (Sandwich, Mass./Barnstable HS) led the team in tackles with eight, including one sack.

Bentley, 4-2 overall and 3-2 NE-10, will look to stretch its winning streak to three next Saturday with a 2 pm Homecoming game against American International.
