Troiani, Hopkins & Pierce Combine for 10 RBI in 15-8 Bentley Win against Bridgeport

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) drove in four runs and both senior shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) and graduate third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS) had three RBI as Bentley University posted a 15-8 win over the University of Bridgeport in non-conference baseball Monday afternoon at Altamonte Springs, Fla.

It was a 4-4 game before Bentley claimed control with seven runs in bottom of the fifth. Freshman DH Joe Boushell (Mansfield, Mass./Wheeler School opened the scoring with a two-run single. After the Falcons added to their total by scoring on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch, Hopkins made it an 11-4 game with a bases-loaded three-run double to center.

Both teams put four runs up on the scoreboard in the eighth inning with Bentley scoring on a three-run homer to right by Pierce and an RBI single by Troiani.

Troiani, who boosted his average to a team-best .341, had previously hit a three-run homer in the fourth. He finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Pierce and Boushell both had two hits and two runs scored for the Falcons.

Bridgeport's 14-hit attack featured a two-run homer from sophomore right fielder Joey Grillo (South Beach, N.Y.) in the eighth.

The win went to junior right-hander Evan Christopulos (Andover, Mass./Andover HS), who struck out seven in eight innings of work.

Bentley improved to 3-8 overall while Bridgeport saw its record drop to 4-4-1.

The two teams will complete their four-game series at Lake Brantley Tuesday at 11 am.
