Rollins Holds on for 8-5 Win over Bentley; Troiani Leads Falcons with 3 Hits

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Rollins College jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings and held on for an 8-5 non-conference win after the Falcons scored three times in the ninth in college baseball action Saturday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

Both center fielders had three hits for their respective teams, Bentley senior Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) and Rollins junior Cameron Meehan (Windemere, Fla.).

Meehan was hit by a pitch and scored the first of two first-inning runs for the Tars. Two innings later, he hit a solo home run to left, igniting a four-run inning that also included a two-run triple to center by graduate first baseman Jake Rolly (Winter Springs, Fla.) and an RBI double to right center by sophomore third baseman Andres Antonini (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).

The Falcons, 0-3 to start the season, picked up single runs in the third and seventh innings. Troiani had an RBI single to right in the third and an infield single in the seventh with graduate third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS) scoring on the play.

Down 8-2 heading into the top of the ninth, Bentley made it close with three two-out runs. Graduate right fielder Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) drew a walk, moved into scoring position on Troiani's third hit of the afternoon and scored on a single by freshman DH Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS).

First baseman Al Paolozzi (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph HS) followed with a double down the right field line, driving in both Zupkus and Troiani. Paolozzi was stranded on second when sophomore righty Kyle Kramer (St. Petersburg, Pa.) got a ground out for the final out.

Sophomore righty Steven Swift (Aledo, Texas) earned the win for 6-3 Rollins after allowing two hits, two walks and a run in five innings of work.

The series will conclude Sunday at 1 pm.
